Introducing Laura Hetherington, RP

Laura Hetherington Laura Hetherington is the founder of Innervate, a consulting firm whose focus is to support leaders and their teams to communicate and collaborate such that they reach their full potential and achieve outstanding business performance.

Laura has held a wide range of management positions across diverse functions in large Canadian companies over the past 20 years. She has played key roles in multi-million dollar Strategy Development initiatives, led acquisition-driven Change Management programs, and facilitated numerous Strategic Planning sessions for a variety of industry sectors. Her broad experience enables her to relate easily to most business leaders, and offer insights that demonstrate understanding of the internal implications of strategic choices and the impact on those they will affect. She keeps a steady yet flexible hand on the rudder as she navigates groups through demanding agendas.

She has spent most of the past decade working with executive teams and key stakeholders; yet Laura has a unique ability to connect with people at all levels and roles, which stems from her having come through the ranks. She is known for her open, honest approach and living her values. She is exceptionally skilled at seeing the dynamics at play within a group.

Having worked throughout North America and traveled the world extensively, she has found the biggest common denominator in business, regardless of race, culture or position, is people's desire to contribute and be acknowledged. Her experience has shown her that business efforts are hindered unless they address this reality. To that end, she devoted six years mid-career becoming a Psychotherapist. In addition to her private practice, she now combines her broad business and facilitation background with her study of psychology to develop leaders and teams who step forward with clarity and curiosity. She is known for her simple yet powerful techniques that creatively allow participants to shift thinking and see through new eyes, giving them confidence to try new approaches, adapt more easily to change and enable greater collaboration.

Laura has been interviewed by CBC Radio on How to Give Critical Feedback, has co-led a Business Simulation course in the MBA program at Simon Fraser University and guest lectured at the Schulich School of Business at York University on Negotiations and Leadership. Laura is a registered psychotherapist, licensed with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (#001543) and is an active member of OACCPP (Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists). She has also studied Humanities at the University of Waterloo. Laura has been active in the non-profit sector sitting on the Ontario Sailing Board and the Canadian Advisory Committee for Social Responsibility.
